Getting ready
The Judging Registration tables, outside EISEF HQ. (The doors to HQ are on the left.) Jo Mahoney (back to camera) directs 2 volunteers from Cedar Rapids Washington High (Go Warriors!).
The first judge arrives
It’s 7:29, registration doesn’t open until 8:00, and Richard Hunt is already here.
The big picture
Registration starts on the right; the judges move past 3 tables, receiving paperwork, assignments, and trinkets as they go; then they go left into HQ, where they’ll select the exhibits they’ll judge.
1st table
Here Washington HS volunteers give the judges their fair booklet, EISEF pin, EISEF pen, and green judge’s ribbon.
2nd table
Here volunteers give the judges their blue contact sheet — their address information, which they’ll correct for us so we can contact them next year to judge.
3rd table
Here Laura and Brian Azelborn assign each judge to a division. Laura has a sheet showing how many judges we need in each division, so she can steer judges where we need them. Just now they’re assigning Jean Oberbroekling and her husband Leon Lueck, both retired teachers.
Done
Laura Azelborn directs a knot of judges into HQ. The judge in the black jacket is Andy Gilds.
Refreshment stop
This is the IowaWORKS lobby. The judges can take advantage of the restrooms (off-camera right), pick up refreshments, and relax at a table while they scan their paperwork.
