Schools in EISEF

You’re eligible to participate in EISEF if you attend a public, private, or home school anywhere in the eastern half of Iowa, and meet our grade and age requirements.

EISEF covers all the Iowa counties that are entirely east of Interstate 35, specifically these counties:

Allamakee, Appanoose, Benton, Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Cedar, Chickasaw, Clayton, Clinton, Davis, Delaware, Des Moines, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Grundy, Hardin, Henry, Howard, Iowa, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Lee, Linn, Louisa, Lucas, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mitchell, Monroe, Muscatine, Poweshiek, Scott, Tama, Van Buren, Wapello, Washington, Wayne, Winneshiek.

List of eligible schools by county or region (using data from the Iowa Department of Education)

The Western Iowa Science and Engineering Fair (WISEF) is the ISEF-affiliated regional fair that covers the schools and students in the western half of Iowa: all counties that contain or are west of Interstate 35. This year’s WISEF is scheduled for March 23, 2024.

The State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa (SSTFI) in Ames is an ISEF “State Fair”. You may may participate in the state fair as well as your regional fair. This year’s SSTFI is scheduled for April 4–5, 2024.
